Conceived by means of in vitro fertilization, Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin) was brought into the world to be a genetic match for her older sister, Kate (Sofia Vassilieva), who suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia. Because of her sister's dependency on her, Anna is unable to live the life she wants; in and out of the hospital constantly, she cannot take part in extracurricular activities such as cheerleading or soccer. When Kate turns 13 she goes into renal failure. Knowing that she will have to donate one of her kidneys to her sister, Anna sues her parents for medical emancipation and the rights to her own body. Attorney Campbell Alexander (Alec Baldwin) agrees to work for Anna pro bono. The film is interlaced with flashbacks that detail the strong relationship between Kate and Anna, as well as how Kate's illness has affected her siblings' lives. Before the result of the case is known, it is revealed that Kate had asked Anna to file for medical emancipation. Believing that she would not survive the surgery, Kate wants to die. Anna wins the case, and due to her sister's wishes does not donate her kidney. Kate later dies at the hospital. The family moves on with their lives, being changed by Kate's death, but every year on Kate's birthday they go to Montana, which was her favorite place in the world.
As I read from the net, the book has totally different endings... the book's ending is kind of quite expected to me because...
The front part is the same..she sued her parents for the rights of her own body... and she won but in the end, she met with a mishap but she managed to save her sister in the end...however, Anna died after that but her sister, kate managed to survive... and her mum cried for Anna instead... but to me, it will be quite expected if Anna dies because most show / movie is film in that way... whenever one character so called did something that made everyone angry and when tt character meets a mishap, everyone will just cry and forgive that person... isnt it abit too cliche? Perhaps i didnt read the book, i duno in e middle, what is in and what is not in the book, but from the ending, that's just my point of view...
In any case, both are realli touching... if you are those kind who will cry watching touching and sad stories, I can bet you will cry watching this movie too... cause its really touching... or those who wish to cry it out, you can also watch this movie...
In the beginning of the show, you will see that their bond is there but y did Anna wanna sue her parents for the rights of her own body cause in this way, her sister, Kate will not be able to live as she needs a kidney from Anna... but as the show goes on, you will eventually understand y she did it at the end... and you will also see how the siblings were neglected due to Kate's illness, like the younger brother....
However, I tink that the mum is quite cruel to Anna in the first place as she gave birth to Anna is just so that she can save Kate...
